4/6 LBI surf

went out front against everybody's advice today. tide was perfect, was warm, and I found a great new spot using Google Earth. No luck today, but in a few weeks this spot is going to light up! Thanks to Paul for telling me how to read the beach, can't wait for warmer waters to hit this spot again!

I have to say, the Google Earth thing really works. I know the pictures your seeing are older, but the spot I found looked pretty big, and sure enough, it was exactly what it looked like on G E. I talked to an old timer fishing there, and he said he's been fishing that same spot for20 years, and it always produces. There's an enormous rip that forms there, and a very deep hole next to it on both sides. needless to say, i'll be going back there very often. Jay, maybe one day you'll come up there with me, i'll show you what I mean.

I think that these maps aren't worth that much in helping you find a hole or structure, being that most maps aren't updated that often, and the structure/holes/rips are constantly undergoing change.  You're best bet is to read the water while staring at it, and not your computer.

normally I agree with you Jay. I just happened to be on GE, and I scanned down the coast of LBI, saw something interesting, and checked it out. In this case, what I saw from the sattelite was right there, and apparently has been there for many years. Most of LBI's coast is a barren wasteland for surf fishing, so I'm told, but this spot, and some others south of it are surf fishing hotspots worth more time.
