Raritan Bay coming alive.
« on: April 11, 2011, 10:37:14 PM »
Well I took a little trip up north today to go fishing with my uncle.  He wanted to try the pier by the spy house.  Well I have to say that area was on fire the past couple of days as the guys that hang out at the end had 3 tied up and we saw 2 keepers caught.  All were nice size in the area of 33" and all had some girth to them.

Bait of choice was fresh clams.  All we were using were salted ones but that is okay as the season is young and there is plenty of time to fish waters I am used to.  There were a number of guys that we had the pleasure of talking to and maybe they will join us here soon.

After finding the skunk we decided to look at some other places like Union Beach and Pebble Beach and others in Keansburg and Keyport.  I have some bad news for those that love to fish Pebble Beach.  The street that you were able to park by JCP&L property is now posted as no trespassing.  I will post a couple of pictures of the signs that are up all over the place.

We were talking to the neighbors in that area and they said that it was because of all the trash that was all over the place left by sloppy anglers that would rather drop their trash instead of bagging it and discarding it in the proper trash barrel.  To all you slobs out there thanks for nothing.  It is hard enough finding spots as it is let along having some of the best producing waters closed because of some idiots laziness.

There are some really nice spots we found and once I get a map on Monmouth County I will post more of them and street names as well.

Happy Catching

Paul

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.

nosmly It's a shame that some areas were closed down due to people who haven't learned how to clean up their mess.  nosmly

Thanks for the Northern report!!!! You guys were killing me last year with all the reports on IBSP and other southern reports.

I'm from Middlesex County and sandy hook is about as far I will head shouth and it was a ghost town last fall.  I think I'll be hitting my local bay this weekend!!!

Definately grabbing fresh clams!

Hey Keng, The bay is defiantly producing up your way.  There are plenty of places to fish and catch right now.  If you go try to make it an early morning thing as it seemed that the fish got lockjaw after 9ish...  And clams all the way, as all that I saw caught up there that day was on fresh clams.  Keyport on south is a good bet so go for it.

Happy Catching

Sounds good guys...I'll let you know what happens! I'll be stripping the old line off tonight.

Are fresh clams widely available?

Pretty much now.  If not salted are ok but fresh is the way to go.

Made it out Sunday from 7a-10. Fished off the beach between the jetties at Laurence Harbor.

I wasn't expecting much given saturday's profuse cold rain. Ended up with one bite leading to slack line and nothing on the end of the line.

There were people on all the jetties, but didnt' see anyone land anything. Around 10ish the wind picked up and I packed up. I'll head back soon.
