IBSP Spring Run
« on: February 07, 2011, 12:48:19 PM »
Hello all, just getting the itch to hit the suds sitting here looking at the white stuff all in my yard. When do you guys think is the peak on average for the spring run at IBSP and what is your bait of choice. I know there are many variables but just wanted to start a discussion is all, thanks.

Well, IBSP comes alive with blues around Mothers Day.  That is when I usually start targeting dates to be on the beach.

Where out there, well the inlet is the best spot, and my choice of bait is a white bucktail tipped with anything pink.

Good Luck

Happy Catching

Once the bunker show in the spring be ready for the stripers it's been earlier every year.April started it for me on the beaches last year with fresh clams as the best bait. By May be ready with bunker snags and plugs to cast to feeding bass. As far as peak fishing for blues, they show earlier inside the inlet. Middle to late April usually starts it and once they show up can provide nice fishing thru May into June.April also can be good for Bass on clams from the suds but better inside the bay as waters warm faster inside and fish are more active. March 1st starts our bass fishing inside the bays and rivers and every year fish are usually caught somewhere in the bays/rivers. It won't be long.  ;D

I don't know that much about LBI any more but IBSP has some easy access to the bay.  Just ask the person at the guard shack to give you a map of the park as you go in.

There are tons of flats out back so if you don't mind the cold put on a set of waders and have at it.  The water is warming up nicely.  I looked at the Rutgers site and it looks like it is already in the 40's back between the sedge islands and the park itself.

Sounds good Steve.  Keep me posted aas to the time frame you will be down and maybe I will take a ride out.

I tried out back where the kayak launch is and it was pretty good as I did get very light hits no matter how fast or slow I retrieved the lure.  But the key right now is to get out there before sun up.

Well, I have no idea what was tapping tne plug but all I know that the temps in the back bay is getting close to that magical number of 50.  A few more days of weather like we have been having and we should start getting some consistent hits ans landings.  I know guys are getting fish right now but it is a night hit so if you want to catch put on the lights boys and go nocturnal.  Or at least right before sun up.

just got back from ibsp.  started fishing at 6:45am and finished off at 3:30pm, and we got skunked.  weather was bad but it was good to be out.  we used clams mostly.  way to windy to throw lures.  were gonna give it a few weeks and get our revenge.  stay safe.

Nice confirmed reports of keeper Stripers caught on Clams up in Raritan bay surf. Herring are plentiful too.
