Fishing rod holder
« on: August 08, 2011, 12:10:28 AM »
Hey everyone, I was looking for a fishing pole holder for my new truck, and all the ones I looked at online were either bumper racks, or racks that you had to screw into the bed, and I did not want to do that, and also they were quite expensive. So I decided to make my own and it works very well, I was very impressed with the outcome. If anyone is interested I am willing to make and sell anywhere between $50 and $75 depending on size and number of holders. Pictures will be posted following this post.

My ? also, with it filled with rods wouldn't the center of balance be at the top thus falling back since there is no hard mount.

I was thinking the same thing.  maybe another leg in the center..coming out.. with direct contact to the floor..

You have to fasten it to the bed somehow. What is holding it down?

I actually filled the legs with crushed up rocks, it's like a rough sand, and I loaded it up with rods, two surf casting, and two flaking rods, and took it for a drive, and I did a bunch of short stops, and quick accelerations and didnt have any tipping issues. The legs are made to size so that they fit snug between the wheel well and the back of the bed. I probably will secure it if I will be going on thebhighway to my tie down cleats. But I made it like this cause i am a college student so I load my truck up for school, and it's easily removed.

It's always worth a try. But anyone can bolt it to their truck beds, i just bought my truck a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't want to really drill into the bed.
