YSA 2011 Fluke Opener
« on: May 09, 2011, 05:11:36 PM »
I left the dock solo yesterday about 6. Had a few hours before the festivus. Looking for any striper evidence or preferably some early season flatties.

Tried those lumps we scouted near the 10lb grounds, nada. Out front near the swim beach in shallow, nada. Dropoffs near False Hook, one at just under 18". Just missed, just like last year. Did not stretch him, sent him back to GROW UP!!! No evidence of any stripers either. Moved over to Flynn's knoll, nada. Bug light, lots of boats, but nada. Port Monmouth hole edges, nada. Keansburg Hole edges, in shallow, in deep, nada. Keyport flats, nada. Back by 10, beautiful day out there except for the fishing. Bait of skunk was bucktail Bobs, tipped with squid, bunker and Gulp! Didn't matter. Fish bit on a 4oz Glow Mai Tai tipped with a chartreuse 4" swimming mullet. Water temp. ranged from 51-60 depending on where I was.

Can't say you didn't try Warren.
Fishing Sandy Hook and anywhere I can get on a boat.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife sells all of my fishing tackle for what she thinks I paid for it!
