05/14 Bass Report
« on: May 14, 2011, 04:08:43 PM »
Early trip today as we pulled out of the slip at 5 AM. We did this for 2 reason 1)-To be able to fish the entire outgoing tide which as yielded the better bite the past few days & 2)-To have enough water to get the boat out of the marina since a nice shoal as formed right out in front of it.

Headed straight to the back. Started off pulled bunker spoons on the 2 outside rods and Mojo rigs on the 2 inside rods. Had a striper & bluefish in the boat within minutes. Next fish was another bluefish, we missed a few strike & lost a few before boating another 2 bass and 1 more bluefish.

Dropped anchor on some decent readings and had a good pick on clams the rest of the morning. Most of the bass were in the 31-33" class with a few shorts in the mix. Had a 7 man limit by 9 and was back at the dock by 9:30.

Nice job. You gotta get there before the boat traffic starts up too.  t^

Rod, we had an equal if not slightly more number of bites on the Mojo's. Captain said they've been doing very well with them-although he's still waiting for the first double  ;D. His Mojo's are slightly different than your diagram as he uses a lead-head with a shad tail instead of a plug.

To the guys who were out on Romer's. I was expecting to fish there as the boat I fished on is usually fishing that area this time of year but when I asked the Captain why we didn't go there, his reply was that the water temps are still too cold out there for a good bite & that everything is about 10-14 days late. that area should break open very soon. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised that after we have these several days of east & southeast winds (that should bring in warmer water & bust up a bunch of clams out there) Romer's goes off.

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.
