Better sand spike design

Want something better then the old PVC or angle stock spike. Anybody have any idea's or design's that are an improvement over the same ole, same ole?? Thanks.

I think it may be hard to improve over such a simple design that gets the job done.

I like and use an aluminum angle iron with a 4" 2 inch round base with the same on top only cut in half.  It is about4 to 41/2 feet tall and when put into the sand allows the whole rig to be up much higher.

The only thing that is needed is a lanyard to keep everything from gong east when a good size fish decides to take off.

Most are pretty expensive, especially when you know the cost of the materials.  It costs less than 10 to build but retail in most B&T's you can pay anywhere from 35 to 45 bucks.  Ouch.

I wish I had a welder I would make them myself.

Thanks for the reply. Will be making my own since i have access to material, like the base idea, already use a lanyard but was over thinking how to better lock it into the sand. Never hurts to ask. Thanks again.

i've home brewed a combo of the two,, a 18" piece of 2" pvc bolted to a 4' piece of angle alum, say 2x2, with about a foot of the pipe hanging over

 i use a heat gun to warm up one end of the pvc, then shove a bottle in it to flare the end, smooth off the edges and good togo.

 after having my favorite combo go east on me, i use a rubber mallet and drive the angle at least 2' into the surf and have not had a problem since, or even close to one

How about something like a tri pod? Main tube for the rod and 2 legs that pivot to what angle you want. Something like a mortar tripod.
