Manhattan Cup Wounded Warriors Fishing Trip
« on: May 21, 2011, 12:29:43 PM »
Myself and Mate Danny Batko headed back to Chelsea Piers in NY to host a group of Wounded Warriors. We made bait quick and put about 200 pieces in the livewells before heading north at 1st light. We did a little pre-fish on the way up and quickly caught and released some decent bass. We arrived and greeted the crew who were all great guys. They are deserving of much more recognition then I can offer them here. They are Staff Sgt. Paul Martin 716 Quartermasters United States Army, Staff Sgt. Ret. Herbert Vidro United States Army, Petty Officer Ret. Richard Sanchez United States Navy. Also on board was Dr. Joseph Buzzanco a proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project. By the time things got under way and we got back to the fish it was after 10 am and the boat traffic and bluefish had arrived. Staff Sgt. Paul Martin caught the 1st and only striper of the day, his first, and a nice 39" CFL bass which we photographed and released. The crew had lots of bites and the bluefish decimated our baits and reduced my hook supply. Special thanks to a very classy Dr. Buzzanco who allowed the Warriors all of the opportunities to catch the fish. We returned to Chelsea piers and dropped off our crew and headed back down the beach only to find the bass stacked where we had fished with the Warriors. Danny and I spent about 90 minutes pounding the bass and blues before giving the rest of the bait away and heading for the barn. God Bless Our Troops!!!!!!
