Today was the first bay/ocean combo trip of the season. It was also the first father and son trip which are always a blast. Tom and his 12 year old son Ryan have only tried fishing a few times and of the 6 fish they have ever caught none were large enough to bring home and show mom. Well today they got enough to show the whole family and send them home each with a few fillets. We started the morning out with a pick of small blues in the bay. These were smaller summer size fish, but since the two anglers had never really caught anything we all really enjoyed it. A run out the inlet to the wrecks really got the guys going as the enjoy a real solid bite of keeper seabass. The first timers boxed 28 keepers to 3.1 lbs and released several dozen shorts and 3 short cod. With smiles on everyones face we headed back to the bay to give fluke a try. One cast with a popper changed the plans. A fish a cast of 2 to 3 lb blues in 3 feet of water keep them busy. 2 short drifts for fluke produced 6 way short fish and one close fish that was dropped boat side. A real fun day and nice pile of fish. I was glad to see the inshore wreck grounds starting to set up. A little more bait showing and some more fish bitting. Bottom temps came up a little and its making a big difference.
