On Saturday 6/11 we made our first Fluke trip of the season hosting the Rick Acevedeo party for his annual JCAA trip. Left the dock around 6:30 and spent some time inside at the tip of the hook giving the guys (some novices) an opportunity to get acquainted with our shimano Stradic/Teramar outfits.
After a few drifts of shorts and robins, decided to test the beach and ran into some solid 4-6'ers at the from the tip to the 11 but saw that it was going to get better as we cleared it. Fished our way down the beach in 3-4s and east winds blowing 15-20 finding nurseries of postage stamp to just shy of keeper sized Fluke and the occaisional keeper mixed in.
Around noon decided it was now or never to try deeper waters working our way back North and managed to put a pair of 6lbers (read 5lbs on my Boga 30) in the boat on our final 2 drifts that were caught with Mai Tai's.
Rick signed up for Shark River and with Fog and a looming thunderstorm we decided to head for the barn at 2:00 to give him plenty of time to get to the weigh-in, unfortunately even with a pair of 6's we did not place. The guys were troopers fishing the victory at sea conditions with one sufferring Mal de Mar, but he stayed at the rail all day long.
Great bunch of guys and looking forward to fishing with them again next year. Hopefully we won't have Hi-Mar weather again.
