Pilot - 6/19 Pauls fat pig 13 Lb Fluke
« on: June 19, 2011, 10:25:22 PM »
cfzd  This fish was just insane.  Nearly had to clear my draws!  Morning started off with little traffic and flat seas.  Planned on the hitting the deeper water and stayed with it.  We didn't have to go to far.  Got a later start than normal 6:45 we start rolling.  Had Paul the fish whisperer, Skunk and his son Jim on board to round out the team.   First stop deep around the hook and we picked two tossers.  Repeated the drift and same results.  Hugged tight to the beach for similar results and then back into the deep bumpy stuff.   All of us worked bucktails with a teaser.   There was no teasing anything as Pauls rod literally doubles over and he cranks the hell out of the Avet.   Good thing too!  This fish was a mud sucker and didn't want to budge at first.   The way the line started going side to side it sure looked like a blue fish found his offering.  It settled in pretty quick and gave those pile driving head shakes that are undeniable and I'm sure for Paul unforgetable.   I pass of my rod to Skunk to retrieve the fluke net and I'm blown away thinking there's no way this sucker is going to fit cfzd.  No time to get the larger net! The dip is made, fish gently coaxed toward the openning.  Please don't shake, don't spit, don't quit.  It barely makes it into the nylon webbing with 3/4 of its body in and the balance hanging like a sack of wet sand.  Lift... over the top and flop on the deck.    What a beauty! ;D  Paul is grinning like cheshire cat.   That's one hell of a canary you ate there Paul!!!   Life time fish.  TT^ Needless to say tons of fist bumping.   We tried this drift a few more times with a couple of shorts and then it got too squirrelly to stick with it.

Motored away to a couple of other spots and ended up by the south candlestick and we touched a couple of more shorts.  We couldn't end the day with one big pig in the coffin.  Just wasn't going to have it, so we searched out new ground and looked for a body of fish.  Up to this point, it was a slow pick.  Every spot delivered but not in quantity or quality.   In between the channels, out to the Ambrose,  and then some.   Wind settled down, drift slowed, tide slacked.  And then a switch of the tide.  We finally came across some decent picking.  Fish in the 3-4 lb class, a handful of Cbass to spice it up.   Jim had a good time putting Skunk on notice that he was outfishing the old man.   We put another 8 in the box and one decent CB.  Then the wind shifted and just flatlined the drifts we had going.   Headed close to the beach for one more shot.... a bunch of short with a keep thrown in.   Headed back to the barn in glass flat conditions.  Cleaned up, filleted a good amount of flatties and then headed over to Twin Lights to get the official weigh in.  Paul, here to you  chrz

Till next time.  t^
