6/26, 6/27 overnighter chicken Canyon
« on: June 28, 2011, 07:52:29 PM »
I was invited to hop aboard Dr.Daves "Bella Momma" a 35' Monterey sport yacht out of Daves Summer home in Brick. We broke the Pt.Pleasant canal around 10pm and put out a trolling spread at chicken Canyon just before dawn. 4 Rods consisting of green Machines, plugs and Skirted Ballyhoo,s.
I took the helm and trolled east as the Ballyhoo rod took off screaming. Dave fought the fish like a champ and Ray took hold of the leader while standing on the swim platform galf in hand when the 4 to 5ft Bluefin spit the hook and swam away laughing at us.  fcp fcp
A couple hours later trolling west another Ballyhoo rod started singing' Dave again started gaining line when the fish spit the hook on us again. fcp fcp,,
That was it for us, We did not connect with anymore fish. The weather was great and the seas were almost flat. We also saw a few whales and sea turtles which was cool, No Birds were around either, I saw a couple of Scallop boats in the area and a few more boats fishing but the radio chatter was not very promising for the Bluefins.
I had a great time and the guys on the boat were fun to be with. I did not take any pics,Someone has video of the first tuna that I will try to get a hold of.  We should be getting out again soon.
  Good luck everyone,  chrz  Eddie

Having those fish spit the hook at the last minute must have been disappointing.  But you still got to hook up and fight those beasts!  That's a good trip IMO. t^

Nice report Eddie. Good to see you are able to get out on the water again. Sucks when you have to work for a living.  :P

Nice Eddie. We had a fluke spit the hook on us right at the boat. Somehow just not the same...

I hate it when that happens and I still have nightmares about loosing some really big fish - right at the boat.  But good to have the chance to be out fishing and on the water - I was working!!!
I FISH therefore I am.
