Today I had Lou , Tom and Pat out for an all day wreck trip. The guys knocked a few more kinds of fish off the list today during our trip. Fishing was a bit slower than it has been but the variety of fish kept the anglers pretty interested. Along with a slower bite today, size of the fish for the most part was also off. The morning had some sloppy seas and strong current that kept us from moving around much and after the wind fell out the ripping current did not help the bite. The guys fished hard and put a decent box together and took home some nice bags of fillets. Our bonus today was a strange fish and a couple of real trophy fish. First the strange fish....Tom says hey look a small shark just came from under the boat and ate my bait......It took me about a second to reach for the gaff and start yelling COBIA with out even looking.
Tom brings the fish boatside when we discover it not a prized cobia but a jumbo remora 26" long. A neat fish and we released it unharmed. Tom wussed out when it was suggest to stick it on his chest for a photo. Next bonus was Tom nailing the biggest winter flounder I have ever seen at 20" and 4lbs. Thought he had a nice fluke only to take a pic and release unharmed. Last bonus was a nice size one, Pat thinks he has another keeper cod only to find out its a 26" 7lb fluke. Todays totals were 33 keeper seabass,23 ling,2 keeper codfish(released 8 shorts) and a 7lb fluke. A nice day with a great group of guys that are always a pleasure to have on board. Fishing makes the day good , awesome peeps makes the day great.
