I cancelled todays scheduled wreck charter early yesterday due to a poor forcast and well the updated forcast changed to a nice day. The charter was still concerned so we stayed cancelled. Whats a captain gonna do on a nice open weather day?
Take the fam fishing. We got off to a nice late start at around 1:30 pm and glass calm bay conditions. Had a nice in coming tide of clean warm water and hungry fish. Its still not the lights out fishing that we have grown accustomed to normally by this time of year but its still pretty good. My wife and 9 year old son hammered away on the fluke and jumbo searobins. A real good mix of sizes with fish from 12" postaged stamps to my wife's nice 21" fish. My son added a 19" fish to the cooler and had me measure a half dozen others that were over 17" but short(30 plus fish released). We avoided most of the boat traffic by hanging in the skinny ( 3'to4') water most of the time. Its cool watching fluke come up and follow your hooked fish. A nice treat was watching a smaller (50lbs) ocean sunfish cruise over the shallow mussel beds. Fish looked to be in good condition and headed to deeper water. Today was one of those nice relaxing fun family days that we all wish we had more of.
