NJ Fishing Locations, 'Ol Barney, North tip LBI
« on: August 07, 2007, 07:53:27 PM »
Hi All,

Wow what a day.  I started off this morning visiting with hareball in Beach Haven, now I’m off to the northern tip of the island, ‘Ol Barney area or better known as Barnegat Light.

There is ample parking off the park grounds if you want to fish free and I have to say the area today was pretty productive with fluke being caught.  I saw 2 brought over the bulkhead one was 16 ½ inches and the other was a keeper not sure of the size as I was in conversation with Chet, a member of the site.  I hope he gets on more often as he has a lot of good information about the area in general.

The area is very clean and very inviting to families as there are food stands and ice cream stands within walking distance and if you have to use the facilities the park has very clean rest rooms.

There is bait & tackle shops up and down the boulevard or you can bring your own if you like.

If you have small children no reason to worry the railings are high enough to keep them from getting into trouble.  There are benches as will if you have the need to sit while waiting for your trophy fish to be hoisted over the railing.

This is definitely worthy of your time.  If you get tired if fishing for your fish of a life time; on the side streets there are shops to search for that treasure to place in your whatever.  The wife will love you for the opportunity to shop, I know mine does.

Happy Catching

Paul

I remember when I was stationed in the USCG at the old station on either 7th or 8th ave, I forget which now, I would see guys walking down the street coming from the beach in the fall.  They would have striped bass hanging over their shoulder and dragging on the ground.  They were fishing a pocket off of the south jetty.  That is before they realigned the jetties.  Man, they were huge fish.  Always has been a good area to catch em up.   t^

I went past the station today and it looked like they were getting ready for a shift change.  There were guys all over the place.

Real neat stuff.

i just noticed the fishing locations topic(dont ask). the are called ol' barney. from the pics posted, it seems you just went to the end of the road there, and i agree, there is some great fishing there. but if you go east, past the tackle shop, there is alot more to see and fish. there are picnic tables for the families, a small jetty behind the lighthouse, and if you go past the lighthouse, a clean, paved walkway, that you can fish from. keep going even further, and you can walk on the jetty, about a third of a mile long (guessing), and fish either side

I love those pictures.  Everyone has them. My inlaws live on the same block as the light house.

this is an excellent spot.  i fished this spot everyday in mid august while on vacation.  everyday produced multiple nice size fluke and weakies.  it seemed like me and my buddy were the only ones catching though.  we were using gulp jerkshads on a 1/4 ounce jig head and boy were those fluke tearing them apart.  t^

Yeah, that whole area is a great fishing area.  I usually make IBSP my home as I live in Toms River and am only about 10 to 15 minutes away.

I hear that because of the Piping Plover that the southern end of LBI at Holgate is going to be closed even longer this year.  When will this ever stop???

If you have a Beach Buggy Pass, the black fishing has been good there.  If not you can try the south side of the Inlet and it has been doing well too.

Except for the 3 fishermen who fell in the drink yesterday.  Luckily, they are ok TT^!

Forget the south side right now, there was no one on that jetty.  The north jetty is sizzling right now.

Funny that I see this thread, going to LBI in a few weeks. The behind the bait shop spot is an EXCELLENT spot for fluke on high tide. You will lose rigs though... Cant wait to fish it again in a few weeks, 2 years ago I caught 5 keepers in a couple hours of fishing altogether and seen a 6 lber get caught. Awesome fishing
