Saturday was set aside for the family this week so we did not sail. With the reports from earlier in the week and a good forecast I was chomping at the bit to fish. After not being able to connect with dates during the Striper season, Dave and I finally settled on Sunday 7/31 for his Fluke trip. Accompanied by Dave Jr and friends Steve and Scott we pushed off at 7:30 and headed out to a flat ocean. We came across a group of porpoises on the feed so took a few minutes to watch before moving on the grounds. Once there it was near drop and reel fluking for a solid 2.5 hours and then it slowed to a pick. Had to keep short drifting a tight spot. By 1:30 we wrapped it up with the guys putting 20 keepers in the box tossing back way too many fish to count. Dave Sr. took honors for the biggest fish at 6lbs and Dave Jr. ran a close second with a 5lb fish. Bucktails, Gulp and Strip baits used all day. Good day on the water with the guys going home with some heavy bags of fillets.
