Surf Sharking 8-13
« on: August 13, 2011, 09:45:31 AM »
Hit the beach with Sir Frocket last night for some sharking.  Hit up IBSP after stopping at Grumpy's and loading up on some fresh bunkies.  Pulled onto the sand under an almost full moon, clear skies and a SW kinda breeze floating by.  We started fishing around the top of the tide and into the outgoing.  2nd, 3rd, and 4th casts for me all had action, with the 4th being a huge runoff, which whatever it was dropped the bait after a good 75 yards of screaming.  We finished up around low tide and got off the sand.  Saw another group of sharkers, who also went 2 for 3 for the evening and they were still going.

Good going Jason...  Did you have luck at the usual spot or did you move around?

Yeah Paul, one of my usual spots, about mid-park.  No moving around for me usually.  When I commit to a spot, I usually stick it out until the end.  Last night was hard to read the water on the flood side of the tide.  All it was saying was FLAT!  Had to just go with a spot that I knew held water and it paid off.  Tonight is gonna be madness I hope.

Jason I'd love to join you there one night. What kind of gear bait are you using I've never caught a shark before aside from a doggy so I really have no idea on where I would start
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

Al, I'm using an 11' rod rated 3-6ozs, although a little heavier could be better, paired with a Penn Sargus 8000 spooled with 65 lb braid.  For bait we are using almost whole bunker on wire crimped rigs and 10/0 circle hooks.  I'm sitting on the beach right now.  No action as of yet.  Let me know when you are in the area and we can give it a go.
