Just got back from a short vacation in New Orleans Saturday afternoon and need to get out fishing. Had a small bucket of clam bellies in the freezer and I picked up a dozen fresh clams and headed to the clam beds off Sandy Hook. Got to the grounds just as the fleet was breaking up but I decided to give it a shot anyway. Got the chum going and managed to land 2 keeper bass 29" and 31" in two hours. When the tide died I made a move to a spot between the channels where I had non-stop action with some of the largest sea robins I have ever caught. They made short work of the rest of my bait so I trolled a stretch back to bay without a touch. It was a great October day to be out on the water!
