Fishing Live Snappers
« on: August 19, 2007, 02:22:09 PM »
Hey All, just wanted to see if anybody has any tips/tricks for fishing live snappers. I personally fish them on a fishfinder rig with a 5/0 gami through the nose with a small treble stinger lightly hooked in the tail.
Anybody have any other ways or better ways? Open to all suggestions. Thanks and tight lines
Brian

you can fish them any way you normally fish live bait.  The way you explained sounds great.  I normally use it on a spro gig, then on my second hook, I use a different gulp or strip bait.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

I'll use a fishfinder on the main line to swivel. On the business end of the swivel I'll use a 12-14" length of leader that's snelled to a 4/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook.

I'll hook the snapper through the nostrils.

I don't like using a treble for either the main hook of stinger because you'll still catch a short (caught a short last night on a snapper) or 2 on snappers and the treble makes a release all the more difficult.
