Chartplotter/Radar For Sale - Is it Worth it??
« on: November 29, 2011, 06:11:26 PM »
I am looking for an "inexpesnsive" radar for my 23' WA. I have come across this listing for Chartplotter/GPS/Radar http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/boa/2719917132.html

I am not sure if this is a good deal or not. Again, I really only need the radar functionality as I have a Garmin GPS/Plotter/Sounder (all in one unit). Thoughts on this package? If I keep just the radar is there any resale on the other components? The small display is the Raymarine tridata.

Can the radar use the GPS data from my Garmin?

Thanks!

Fred

Do I need all of it to work? I don't have a lot of room in the boat so, if I can get the radar display to interface with the GPS that would be a plus since I could then use the radar display as a chartplotter and use the Garmin combo unit as the stand alone sonar orrrr I suppose I could just mount the GPS for the Raymarine out of the way in the cuddy for the chartplotting functions.

Thoughts? I am not familar with these electronics.

Im sure that will work as long as there capable to interface. If you have to mount it in the cuddy id try to mount it where i could see it from the helm, thats if you have the space.

I would get the model number and send an e-mail to raymarine tech support.  They generally answer pretty quick.  I have a c80 MFD and it will not interface with the sl72 plus radar except for heading information which is a NMEA connection.
