Any Bait Fish in Shark River Inlet this time of year?
« on: March 09, 2012, 01:49:42 AM »
Long time lurker, first time poster.

It's an odd question to start, but would there be any bait fish around the Shark River Inlet this time of year?

My little siblings would join me kayak fishing throughout the year, but one of their favorite activities is when I cast net for bait.  One asked me if there would be anything there if we used the cast net and is begging to go, but I honestly didn't know if there would be anything swimming around.

We're not talking bunker or herring.  Just killies and silver sides.  They just like to catch them, throw them in a bucket, watch them swim around a little, then we let them go.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard!  I don't see why not, especially with Winter temps being so warm.  I'd give it a shot.
The cure for everything is salt water: sweat, tears, and the sea.

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.

Just got back from a dog walk and to have a look see around BM.

Not the best of conditions with a hard westerly and outgoing tide.

No life whatsoever around the docks, pilings or the RR tressels.

NOT saying there isnt anything there at all, just wasnt any today....may be a few weeks before the bait starts building.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and information!  Based on your response, I was able to convince them to do some freshwater fishing this weekend and look into hitting the bays in April.

I normally start when Fluke season begins, but I did too good of a job getting them hooked into fishing they just can't wait!
