Rod to Compliment HS15?
« on: March 13, 2012, 11:10:41 PM »
Called Don today at Cannyon and he was cool enough to pass along the AC boat show price on a new HS15. Now, what are some of your thoughts on a good rod to compliment it? I will do mostly in-shore "all around" fishing (stripers, wreck, maybe school BFT).

Thanks,

Fred

really depends on your price range but. Cant go wrong with a st. croix.... I know alot of guys who like the Star Rods too. To be honest though for me between my wife and i  own 3 custom rods... Yes they are more expensive but if your shelling out the dough a nice reel its nice to have a rod that is EXACTLY what you want. Good luck with your search!!!

Some times  there not too much more expensive, I have 2x Bogan fish poisons and the ran about $130 each you can pay alot more  for an off the shelf rod than that. But definitely worth it if your not in a hurry the can take up to a month to get. But like NJG said you get what you want.
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

St.Croix Premier/PM70MHF is a great match for that reel. Its good for deeper water Fluking, Stripers, Blackfish, smaller Bluefin tuna. and if you break it they will replace it. As said above, a custom will run you around $160 for a great rod. If you want fancy wraps its more like $210 but this will not effect performance. Star Plasma rods have excellent quality and I use one for shallow water fluking and smaller fish like seabass or porgies. Star makes all size rods. If you go custom, bring the reel to the shop for a perfect match. TT^
