Coast Guard out in MI
« on: April 10, 2012, 09:58:42 PM »
Just a heads up that the CG was boarding boats all afternoon in the MI. I watched from my dock as they boarded 3 boats and then when I went out, they boarded me. All good and they perform a great service; just make sure that you're properly equipped before heading out.

Sounds like they are only trying to make us safe. People forget to put some gear on board at the beginning of the season. Have a check list and mark the items off as you put your equipment on the boat.

Don't forget to check your flares for the expiration date. Check your PDFs for any tears or mildew. Also, pull on the straps of your PDFs. If a strap can't hold up to a little tug during inspection it will fail when needed the most.

Have a safe season.  t^

Completely agree...the CG provides a vital service, those men and women can't be thanked enough as far as I'm concerned. (and YES, I did thank them for checking my boat.)

Having all the necessary safety equipment and performing safety checks are essential.

The reason I posted this was to give a friendly heads up that if you haven't already checked all your safety gear, here is another reason to do so.

Didn't want anyone here caught unprepared.

If it came across as anything else, I apologize; that was not my intent.
