Took a ride up to Point Pleasant to do some jigging on the Gambler yesterday, but I arrived to an empty boat. So I decided to ride up to Belmar and wound up on the Ocean Explorer. Looks like Scotty on the Bandit wasn't sailing either.
We had a lot of action right from the start on teen sized bluefish. The striper bite was tough, but the captain burned some gas looking for areas where the demons were less abundant.
I finally put the first striper in the boat about mid-morning on a H4L Mungus jig and then, a little later had another one on a sassy shad. A few more stripers got caught, but not many. Maybe a dozen for the whole boat. I managed one more on a Crocodile, making it three for me.
Not a slamming day like I've been hearing about, but we definitely had action. The captain worked hard and it was a great to finally get on the water. As the hillbillies on TV say, "It was nice to have somethin' stretch my string!"
