Had the Hani Fares party from Somerset, NJ out this morning for a try at those elusive and finicky Striped Bass.
Coming to bat for me again today was Capt. Greg Wlazlowski at the helm who once again did not disappoint. Armed with fresh clams, Capt Greg set out to our pre-determined locations only to find these areas somewhat barren of Stripers but loaded with Bluefish as has been the case now for over a week.
But Capt Greg's keen eye was put to the test as he saw a flock of birds hovering around in an area in Raritan Bay which he quickly made a beeline for and was rewarded with the sight of a tightly schooled pod of bunker being harassed by Stripers feeding below them. A few casts with a weighted treble hook on our ultra light St.Croix spinning rod/reel outfits and BANG....fish on. Capt Greg and Mate Mark help the crew hook and box Stripers from the low teens to well over 22 lbs. and loosing another one about 10 feet from the boat that was well over 30 lb's.....OUCH!
I was at the dock when they returned and everyone seemed to have a great time on our light tackle rods and reels catching both Striped Bass as well as Bluefish that are on a smoker as we speak. Thanks go out to Hani and his crew for a very active and enjoyable Monday morning on Reel Fun Sportfishing as well as Capt Greg and Mate Mark for a job well done.
