Fishing in the rain?
« on: August 21, 2007, 09:25:45 PM »
Is it worth it to fish in the rain? Some guy told me fish don't like the rain. Of course I immediatly think "That's stupid, they're already wet." (rimshot sound effect) Seriously. Some nights I get so worked up I would go stand on the jetty to fish and relax in the rain if I thought I would catch something.
I think I could be a really good people person if wasn't for the people.

I'm not catching any more fish, but I'm starting to learn why I'm not catching any more fish.

all depends.. too much rain makes the water murky, and also puts too much fresh water within the salt water.  After a day or so and a few tide changes, everything should be back to normal.  It all depends.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

It's like fishin in the sun just wetter. I've had great days and crappie daze rain and shine. Murky water slows down the bite for sure but fish gotta eat regardless. Also way less boats/anglers on less than ideal days. Way better than work...

Fish are already wet, why would rain bother them?

During my surf fishing years, I have had some VERT productive days fishing in the rain.  Both for stripers and blues.

After a few days of rain the surface water is not as saline so it's more likely you can catch fish in deeper water where the fish will seek their ideal salinity. It's like seeking out the proper thermocline.  They have to eat and you have to find at what depth they're feeding .
Rain falling while you're fishing will only help flatten the water which will make it not so rough (choppy). Had some great days while it rained. Just keep your eyes peeled for lightning.
  Get wet and go get'em.
