With the great forecast and reports of the ocean bite on again from last night, my good buddy John and I decided to make a later afternoon run on his Semper Fly. We turned the hook to find miles of Bunker streaming in, we loeaded the well wuickly. With pods being harassed, we made a quick stop but found nobody home. Headed further South and put the spoons in at one of our favorite trolling spots. 2 Gator blues later we picked up and headed further South. About 2 miles into the run, we both start to see what look like depth charge explosions going off. Then out to the east we see the mother load of Stripers churning up the surface.

I stop the boat and John launches a popper and no sooner does it hit the water and he is hooked up. I get a livie in and I am hooked up. After a quick fight, John has a 50 (bounced between 50 and 52 on the Boga) on deck and my 25 comes in shortly thereafter. A moment for photos and to celebrate and then we revive and release our fish. First fish of the night, a 50lber on a popper, I told him he better go play the lottery.

We get back on the fish and it would be game on for the next 2 1/2 hours. John continued to work his magic with Popper and I fished the live bait. It was just crazy, wolfpacks of big bass creating white water, bunkers flying into the air, and insane marks under the boat. A Striper fisherman’s dream come true. With hooked up rod in one hand I had the cell phone in the other calling in my buddies to the bite. At one point we were in the center of a wolfpack in shear awe. By evenings end John and I caught and released 30 bass between 25 and 50 pounds. I couldn’t better my pair of 40′s but it was a very special night of fishing with a good buddy. Cap it off by a celebratory dinner at our favorite jaunt, the Marina diner and it just doesn’t get any better than this.
