From another site...amazing catch and congrats!
So as i stated in other threads I was suffering from BIG EYE BRAIN,,, and could not focus on anything other than getting back out there,, after hearing about a 270 big eye and several others!!!! So I let BIG EYE BRAIN make all decisions,, and even though the forecast was garbage,, we pulled away from the dock 11PM last night,,, broke the Barnegat inlet at around midnight and setup for the 85 mile run south,,, ran roughly 25 knots,, the whole way,, and arrived at 4 AM,,, worked my way around the edge while Mike and Ryan readied the gear,,, put lines in at 4:30 right in the notches that Mike and Adam discussed as holding Big Eyes before,,, At 4:44 the Joe Shute on the right tip goes off !!!! 14 minutes and we are into a hell of a fight,, Man oh man did Mike and Adam NAIL THAT SPOT DOWN!!!!! The bite was in 75 degree water around 900 feet deep, during a slow down sea turn,,,,,, I strapped in and for the next 2 hours, worked this beast back and forth!!!! twice, it had me burned down halfway through my spectra backing,,,, what a battle,,, once i got the fish 50 feet under the boat,, i spent the next 30 to 40 minutes locked in an inch by inch give and take.... First shot available,, Ryan smoked the fish with the harpoon about 5 feet under the surface, and Mike sunk the gaff in its head,,,we tail roped it, and stared in amazement,,, we knew this fish was pushing 300,, Spent the remainder of the day,, trying for another Big Eye bite, but it wasnt to come,, we went 10 for 10 on yellowfin,, good size fish, and released another 3 that were maybe 30 pounds,,, ran back as the wind began puffing up,,, and went straight to a certified scale at Latitudes Bar / Southwinds Harbor Marina, across from my house,,, weighed the Big Eye in at 311 and change !!!!!!! Couldnt be happier that i let Big Eye Brain take over and we took a shot,,, we wanted nothing but Big Eye and we got what we came for!!!!! The entire time i fought this fish, a boat we ran out next too, had to have the Coast Guard airlift someone off their boat,, i dont know the details,, but I hope whoever it was is ok... Hats off to the USCG!!!!! they had a chopper onsite in less than 30 minutes,, and placed their basket right in the cockpit, lifting the injured or sick person to safety and medical attention!!! I hope to god I NEVER need their services,, but it offers great peace of mind to know those guys will be there on a moments notice if you get into trouble!!!! I am not good at posting pictures,, so a friend of mine will add them to this thread for me in about an hour or so!!!! Side Note: Terminator Tackle, Joe, you will be glad to know that the custom rods and Penn 50's handled that fat ass Big Eye very well,,, The yellowfin hit a combination of Canyon Runner Bars and Terminator Tackle bars,, Canyon Runner squid bars and Terminators green machine bars were both hot on the yellowfin,,,
