rod/reel combo for fluke maybe bass from party boat
« on: June 30, 2012, 08:30:25 PM »
Hi folks,
I have not been saltwater fishing for a long number of years. (don't do well on boats, because of medical problems) I would like to start up again, and need some "current" information on good general combos. I have a number shimano reels, spinning and conventional, but not sure what would be best.
I've got a budget of about 300.00.
Any suggestions:
rod, reel, line.
If it makes a difference I use UL spinning up to Heavy Bait casting gear for fresh water.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you're only getting one for fluke and bass from a PB, I would recommend a Shimano Torium 20 and a 7' heavy action Aerial Boat rod from Star Rods or 7' MH St. Croix Triumph Saltwater.

If you are looking for a combo to only fish fluke you can go a lot lighter.

not that i'm a big party boat fisherman but i have learned that braid is really not the way to go, especially on the busier boats.  its just seems inevitable that you are going to get tangled and between the strength and cost of braid it can be a pain in the buttocks.  i just use run of the mill 30# mono and if a tangle happens just cut and retie.  just my two cents.
It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

whs  They usually don't mind it too much you are vertical jigging.  But, for dropping baits back in a chum slick it can be a nightmare.
