Cutting steel siding
« on: July 12, 2012, 04:00:57 PM »
I am replacing a window with french doors. I want to cut the siding without removing it from the house. Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated.  slt

use one of those handheld mini circular saws, like a 3" dia blade. Easy to maneuver and fairly quick. Go for the carbide tip blade if cutting steel ( are you sure it's not aluminum? ). Some of those cordless with the LI-Ions packs are like 24VDC and pack quite a punch (for cordless.)

Positive it is steel. Thanks! Save a lot of time cutting it right on the house without removing it.

cut the siding 1/2 in bigger than the size of the door from brick mold to brick mold then before you put the door in slide j-channel in the siding. after you get the door in use a p shooter to get trim nails in the flat part of the j into the brick mold.

The exterior around the door will be inside a sunroom will not be replacing the siding around the door. Have to cut the siding to the outside of the sunroom. I will use the J channel there though. Thanks for the help!!

Steel siding on a house :headscra:

Very common over here in PA

(im a Property Insurance Adjuster, and see it quite frequently )

Grinder is the way to go to cut it, just have some water handy, never know what combustibles might be behind that siding.

Never put off until tomorrow, what you can do the day after tomorrow
