Hot Spots ??
« on: August 27, 2007, 06:57:10 PM »
If anyone would like to share any of there hot spots for fluke out of Atlantic Highlands Marina...GPS coordinates etc. I would love to know where I can catch some fluke, 1 short yesterday that was all. Not quite familiar with being out on a boat and fishing the spots. Cousins buddy has a 400$ and change GPS/Fish Finder and we plot in the longitude, lattitude numbers and it gives us directions there. We fished the Sandy Hook Channel which is straight out in front of us from the marina but we went to the TC Bouy out there. Any information ?? Thanks all

fishon, is the GPS equipt with a chartplotter (map)?  If so, that will show you channels, bottom contour lines, wrecks, etc.  Using that, you can find spots that are most likely to be productive.
I don't have any numbers for the Sandy Hook area, but if you can use from Shrewsbury Rock south to the Sea Girt reef, I may be able to scrounge some numbers up for you.

You have to find structure (lumps, bumps, channels, etc.) differant condictions will have the fish holding in differant areas/depths........a good chart plotter, a good chart and good fish finder are the key....as well as your experience in fishing the area......

Once you locate your structure you just have to work it......there is a post in the forum on GPS numbers......guys will share basic info, but those special spots are gurded like gold.......

It is no real big secret to fluking trial and error are the best way.....hope this helps, good fishing

Alright I jotted down a few spots that I think I want to try from the AH Marina this saturday - sunday.

Ambrose Channel
TC buoy
Sandy Hook Reef
Romer Shoals
Mud Hole
FARMS
Shrewsbury Rocks
Axel Carlson Reef

Are any of these spots way out far for an 18 foot boat, or is it all possible to have done ? Appreciate the help guys, im just finding out some spots to go to, not used to this boat stuff...  t^

The first four are do-able.  Close by.  You will have to be careful of the wakes from other boats, etc.  You don't want to get swamped.
The other spots are further out and south.  Axel Corelson reef is south of Manasquan (Point Pleasant).

All are possible to do on flat sea days, but not worth the effort because the other spots are closer and pretty much will produce just as good.

Fishon, I would pay close attention to what CaptBob has to say.  He is a charter captain FROM THAT AREA!  That would mean a lot to me.

I haven't fished that area in years and can't give you any advise on present conditions there.

In other words.  Listen to what CaptBob has to say before you listen to me on the Sandy Hook area.   TT^

Fishon

Sandy Hook, TC Buoy, Chapel Hill, Sp Buoy, Shrewsbury River, Belford Channel, Port Monmouth and Keansburg dredge holes are all good for your boat, but as anything ya gotta watch the weather and seas.....Ambrose I would be care, on the right day I would not hesitate...

Also the Bug Light, near the coast guard station and in between the two sets of fishing nets at the hook there are a couple nice holes...

The Shrewsbury and NAvesink Rivers are great fisheries, Fluke, Flounder, Striped Bass, Blues, Weakfish and your boat can get right in there where you need to be........in the spring time go up the Navesink and Plug along the sedge grass, you'll get some great bass TT^
