trailer tragedy
« on: July 26, 2012, 08:57:41 AM »
Little late with this one! Had a whole weekend of fishing planned last week Sun. morning I was to meet my Brother and get some quality fluke time in on the Raritan bay and then pack up and hit the Barnaget with my two Boys. Well the Big Guy had other plans for me. Went for fuel around the corner from my house and on the return trip heard an odd noise. You guessed it BLOWN bearing on my passenger side. The kick in the ass was it was my own fault, had just repacked the night before and must of over tightened the castle nut on the packing. long story short destroyed the spindle and now shopping for a new axle! Got a love it hopefully be back in the water next week with a better report.  rgmn

Ugh! I feel your pain. I had a trailer disaster earlier in the year....

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

try camp-out in plainfield or the one in west portal.  they are on the expensive side but usually have things like this in stock.  you can also try skyline equipment up near hampton on route 31.  bit far from somerville but doable if trying to save a fishing day.  PM if you need either of the numbers.
It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

:headscra: Sounds fishy to me Over tightened castle nut. yes will destroy a bearing by over heating and then seizing. But you stated you went just around the corner and on the way back it destroyed the Spindle.  :headscra: Mt thoughts are there was something at work before that.
suggestion what ever happened to Bearing Buddies are they still around.  :headscra:

over bite went back and looked for bearing buddy never found it. i agree it seems strange. but i cant come up with anything better. i have pulled those hubs and re packed bearings many times before with no problems. maybe a bearing that was on its way out and me disturbing it put it over. either way it sucks and now having a hard time matching axle.
