Reel McCoy II Saturday 9/1 report
« on: September 01, 2012, 06:56:31 PM »
Had my neighbor, Dick out today for an ocean fluke trip. Pulled out of Bahr's at 0730 and headed straight for Ambrose Bouy 3.  Made two drifts that yielded a couple of shorts and one 18" fish.  Made a move further out to a hump that produced for me on Thursday.  My first fish was a hair over the limit so I released hoping for something larger, it would be a while before I put anything in the box.  Dick was going to town putting nice fish in the box including the pool winner 6# fish and a nice sized CB.  I stared to pick up the pace and by noon we had 9 in the box and were hoping for the limit fish but we just picked away at shorts.  Made a move to the rough stuff and put the 10th fish in the box, along with two more nice CBs.  Made another move to Scotland and we started to hit some more nice fish.  The days totals were 15 keeper fluke (only kept our limit) along with a lot of shorts and 3 CBs.  Only down side was a large skate that managed to break one of my Fish Poison rods (braid wrapped the rod and cut through like butter), they while removing the jig from its mouth my finger was in the wrong place and it bit me while whipping my leg with its spikey tail.  And I forgot to mention all the blood I lost to the black fly swarm that hung out with us all day.
Definitely my best fluke trip this year t^

Terrific catch Dan! t^  Too bad about the rod.  That stinks. :P

We had those nasty flies in the boat yesterday as well.  Amazing how far they travel out to sea.

Way to go Dan t^ Way to go Dick fcp
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

Way to get it done lad!  Sucks with the stick getting nipped.  Is it repairable?

The rod lost about 18", it would have left me with a short very heavy action rod.  It now is sleeping with the fishes.
