Primary target in that timeframe will be stripers.  Sept in Oct there will be some bluefish as well.
Depending on the bait movement, the bass will be feeding on mullet, peanut bunker, adult bunker and sandeels.  The sandeels will be what they feed on into December.
So if you're fishing bait, bunker chunks, mullet and peanut bunker would be choices early on.  Clams later on in the fall.
If you're fishing artificials, swimming plugs and poppers early on.  And AVAs, needlefish and other skinny lures later on.
The beaches further south (southern monmouth co. and most of ocean co.) are typically much more productive in the fall.  But every year is different.
Your best chance for success is to be willing to try different areas as the fish migrate.

whs exactly. Be on the move one day there at monmouth beach the next there in sea bright.
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

Welcome Aboard Buster,

You don't need much to get started for the fall run.  Just follow Chris's choice in lures and get ready for some fun.

This site should light up once the run is in full swing.  Just read what we are using and take it from there.  I like to use AVA's in the 17 to 27 range with a teaser about 18 inches above the lure.  Colors can and will change from day to day.  I would have yellow teasers ready to go as that always seems like a good starting point.

If you look into any well stocked tackle box the teasers mimic a rainbow with as many colors.  They are now expensive but the real fun comes when you start making your own.  Check out some of the regulars on here and you will see what I mean.

If you need any help don't hesitate to throw out your quires. There are enough great fishermen and women that have tons of experience to make sure your on track.

Happy Catching

Paul

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.
