9/14 MI
« on: September 14, 2012, 06:32:59 PM »
Left the dock with Tim around 0800 and headed to the Ledge to try to troll up some Mahi off of the pots. We weren't able to get any killies or peanut bunker to bait them so, we didn't even plan on throwing lures at the pots if trolling failed. We got to the pots to beautiful conditions but, no spectacular life, no chicks, sharks, turtles, or dolphins around.

We put in a good effort at trolling bars, feathers, and chains w/only one knockdown that became tangled because my buddy left the boat in gear and left the helm - needless to say we needed to do some surgery on the gear and prop before moving on. Of course we lost whatever was on but, it felt like it had some weight....

Move to the mudhole and fished around the pots there. It was a crap shoot because there was a lobster boat in the area so, figuring out which pots were tended to was a bit impossible. After playing with those pots for a while we trolled the edges of Shark River Reef at a little higher speed to avoid and demons that may have been away from the fleet. We managed 2 falsies on the new Sterling gear. Fleet left, we trolled some more but, no more takers. Home we went.

Another buddy of mine had fished a little further SE (out of my range w/o additional fuel) and managed 1 legal BFT, and 8# mahi, and about a dozen falsies.

Although the falsies went back in the drink it was still better than a boat load of skunk!

Thanks, Rod. If you don't have the mojo you got to try and buy it!

It was nice to hear of the BFT at least.

You need a cast net. I was marking a ton of bait in the Manasquan River on my way out Friday morning.
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><

I have one. Just didn't have enough time to grab them.

Yeah I know. I am running out of room in the freezer and we actually didn't think about stopping near the pots and throwing out a couple fillets and drift for a bit. You know hindsight......
