Pilot - Ground and Pound!!!! 11/18/12
« on: November 18, 2012, 08:46:22 PM »
Whew!!! What a difference a couple of days make.  An excellent crew on board today with the Tog Machine AKA Capt Don Jr.,  T-Bone the steady, Nick B. (I should have stayed home for Fantasy Football), and a welcome guest Blake.   We ran the same script as Friday.  Got the goods from Cancun Pete (thanks for hooking us up once again and glad to be 1 of 5!) The worst is over!   We did the Petro run with a little shake of the Polyethelene snake and dumped 25 Gals in the belly of ZO!  Motored out at 7:00 sharp runnig the same course but it was a tad slower with tighter 4-5's.   We dropped in on our first one about 300 ft from Friday's blast.  We were not alone but plenty of elbow room here.  Figured we should get a decent bite going before and after the tide.  Well I'll be damned if we didn't just about skunk out for the first 3 hours.  The only one that caught was TBone and Nick on a couple of healthy silver eels and a couple of dingers.  The family Barts were not doing well with the roll and both looked like a chumbox ready to purge at any given moment.   T-bone just about blew lunch after taking a good snif of the livewell that's been out of commission since the last batch of peanuts worked the fluke grounds.  Man, that stench could knock a buzzard off a crap wagon!   Meanwhile, Nick was pale, then three shades of green, looking to pitch a few cookies if the good man above would have blessed him with some swill in his gullet.  No chance!   It didn't help that we couldnt get a thing going to get the mind off the misery.

Time passes... we finally get a quick flurry.  Two are put in the box.  The guys are getting antsy and want to call it a day and then the hell storm begins.   Don's on, Tbone's on, Blake bangs a couple, Nick gets shook the boat is rockin and we keep grounding and pounding.   Who would have thought.  We wrote this day off and in an hour and a half we put the groceries in the cart (Mark, you nailed that expression!).  We had a finite time in mind and the audible was called at 1:30.  A slow snotty ride back with a crew that were relieved that we made lemonade out of lemons..... some grinning and some with a distant memory that they were ready to pitch cookies.   All in all, a great recovery.  Ended up putting 19 quality Blackfish in the tub.   Not bad for a real rocky beginning.  Sometimes you just have to ground it and pound it!

Pilot, my head is still spinning but I'm glad we hung in there and made something out of what looked like a nothing day!! It just amazes me how it could turn on just like that. Nick and I had a good time as usual. Thanks for putting this together. TBone clp
