The Asian Market-Best Place For Squid Bait
« on: July 19, 2007, 09:38:53 PM »
If you guys are like me, I need all kinds of bait on the boat.I mean everything. The one thing I would just hate is if my sons and I are into a mad bite and the bait is gone.
I go to the asian market on route 18 and buy fresh squid.$2.35 a pound and beautuful large squid.Perfect for strip bait.Much better and less expensive then the tackle shop stuff. Its worth the trip and the wife will appreciate all the great veggies and produce you bring home.

Nice, you just gave away a huge secret!!!!!

it is the best place to get your squid, cuddle fish tubes, jumbo spearing .. all for a fraction of what bait shops charge!!\

I buy the frozen, cleaned squid there too. Super thick ... it holds up well and easy to cut into long strips.

Hi All,

I usually a box of frozen squid from Shop Rite it was about 3lbs worth for $6.00.  I clean then cut them into strips and put them into the same closed pail of salted water I use for clams.

The salt seems to toughen them up a little and they seem to stay on the hook while jigging a lot better.

Plus I think the salted clams seem to attract more fish maybe it is my imagination.

Happy Catching

Ped, I use the same squid whole for fluking.  Make up a slider hook rig to keep the spread between hook proper and away you go.  I have caught some nice fluke like that.  A lot of short ones too.   TT^

I tried the whole squid trick last Tuesday while on vacation and my wife out fished me with it.  I also used the slider with a bait keeper hook the combo worked great.

I use the cut squid for jigging.  I like to salt them to make them a little more solid and they stay on the hook a lot longer.  The same thing with clams I have left over.

Happy Catching

You use them in your voodoo stew.
