NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook: Week Edition Apr 15-19, 2013

This week will have chances of rain throughout most of the week.  Today will continue to warm into the upper 50's, maybe even 60's in some places and there will be a chance of scattered or isolated showers through the overnight hours. Rain chances will continue for Tuesday Night, Wednesday, Thursday Day and Friday.  Rain chances right now remain lower, around 30% chances of scattered showers.  Friday has the highest chances of more organized rain and even a thunderstorm.  High temperatures will make it into the mid and upper 60's and even lower 70's on Friday.  Low temperatures will be in the 40's and 50's overnight.  Water conditions will vary all week with the movement of so many different boundaries and pressure systems.  Small Craft Advisories are possible Tuesday and then Thursday Afternoon into Saturday Morning.  Winds could max to 30 knots with higher gusts and seas to 6 feet at 6 seconds in some areas.  Water temperatures are in the upper 40's for ocean waters and lower to mid 50's for most bays and rivers.  Surf conditions will be normal for most of the week with 0-2 and 1-2 foot wave heights through late Thursday when waves will increase 3-4 feet and then 2-3/3-4 feet through Friday.

A look ahead to the weekend will have a chance of rain showers on Saturday, clearing out by evening and remaining dry for the remainder.  Temperatures will reach upper 50's and 60's with lows into the 40's.  Water conditions will be cautious with possible SCA's through Saturday Afternoon then subsiding for Saturday Afternoon and Sunday.
 
High pressure pushing down from New England early this morning will move east slowly.  However, low pressure to our south will influence the area today as well in areas where the high pressure has not filled in.  A cold front will approach from the northwest on Tuesday, move into the area on Tuesday Night and then stall out over the general area on Wednesday.  This cold front will then lift north later in the week as a warm front. A much stronger cold front will move in on Friday and clear out by Saturday.  High pressure will then build in for the weekend.

As today continues, chances of rain and thunderstorms will increase.  High temperatures into the mid 70's with mostly sunny conditions.  Clouds will increase throughout the day.  During the day, rain will be scattered or isolated showers.  Tonight, rain chances will increase to a widespread event moving through the area ahead of a cold front.  Rain could be heavy and thunderstorms could be severe with damaging winds and a low chance of tornadoes.  These storms will move in later this evening into tonight.

Just an FYI, there is a Tornado Watch active for bordering PA Counties.  This Watch is covering all of plus the most unstable area, however weather doesn't know boundaries, so there is a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, hail and possibly tornadoes.  Jut keep and ear and eye to the weather.

It is likely that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be issued this evening/night for all or parts of NJ.  There is moderate instability that will support damaging winds and even tornadoes.  The SPC has issued a Severe Weather Discussion outlining this.  There is a large, bowing squall line out in PA, approaching the area from the southwest, moving northeast.  The bowing line indicates strong straightline wind.  Most of this line is severe warned.
