Kayak Fishing The Barnegate Bay
« on: April 23, 2013, 06:56:52 PM »
Well the reports are coming in daily and the fishing has gone nuts in the back waters of Ocean County this week.

The Bunker have moved in and are in large pods around the 37 Bridge......Large Bluefish in the 8-10 pound range are blowing the Bunker right out of the water.

The Weakfish have also started to move around the back side of Island Beach State Park.....with some of the fish being in the 5-8 pound class.....

The Bass are from the Barnegate Inlet all the way up into the Point Pleasant Canal with some of the bass pushing into the 20 pound weight class.....These big boys are chasing big adult Bunker and the herring which are looking for the fresh water areas to spawn................... I would fish the west side of the bay where those small feeder waters are.......The bass will sit and wait for the bait on a drop tide.

Happy Fishing........Stay safe.

Dave, have they opened up A15 or A20 to launch kayaks and canoes from the back yet?  I have not heard of any openings other than the ocean side.  It would be great to get back there again.

Hey Paul.......From what I'm told the lower part of the Island is still closed.

But down along Bay Blvd.....By the old Wheel House Boat Yard you can park and get out with a kayak very easy.

That cove area hold some good fishing for both Bass and Blues in the early spring.

But to be honest with everyone the Bunker are pushing in both the Barnegate and Manasquan inlets heavy......They where so thick the last couple nights it was hard to fish without snagging them.

I will have to check that out.  The last time I was there before Sandy there were no parking signs up.  Got to go back and check it out.
