NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook: Weekend Edition May 4-5, 2013

Another dry weekend with mostly sunny skies.  High temperatures will be in the mid 60's with lows into the mid 40's.  Water conditions will be good for all inshore areas north of Barnegat Inlet.  South of Barnegat Inlet could see some cautious conditions and Small Craft Advisories on Saturday, especially extreme southern areas near Cape May and the Delaware Bay.  Even Northern areas will see winds to 15 knots and seas at 5 feet at 9 seconds to start Saturday.  These will slowly diminish throughout the weekend.  Southern areas are going to see winds in excess of 20 knots and seas around 5-6 feet at 9-10 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore will also be cautious all weekend with winds in excess of 20 knots and seas at 6-7 feet at 9-10 seconds.  Water temperatures are up a few degrees with bays and rivers in the upper 50's and ocean waters in the mid 50's.  Water temperatures may peak and begin leveling on until we see some warmer temperatures.  It is likely that May will be on the cool side and only see mid 60's to low 70's at the most.  Surf conditions will be elevated to moderate with slightly higher surf conditions due to the continued predominantly easterly onshore flow.  Saturday could see 3-4 and 5-6 foot waves and a ENE wind around 15 knots.  Sunday will be 2-3 and 405 foot waves with that continued ENE wind around 15 knots.  Areas south of BI could see even higher waves and winds on Saturday. 

A look ahead to next week looks to be start off dry with increased chances of rain as the week progresses. Rain chances are likely Tuesday through Friday with the greatest chances in the middle to end of the week.  Temperatures will remain in the mid 60's and mid 40's with lows increasing to the low 50's near the end of the weeek.  Water conditions will be good for the beginning of the week, except for Southern Areas.  Conditions could be cautious and require Small Craft Advisories with the passing of the cold front toward the middle to end of the week. 

High pressure will dominate across the northeast while weak low pressure and an associated cold from will move slowly across the Midwest and Ohio Valley, not reaching the region until the middle of next week.
