Just checking in! Born and raised in South Jersey and will be doing some fishing back home this summer.   PS I need some help from the mods. Some how I'm logged in under my name instead of screen name. I read the direction on how to fix this but was unsuccessful.

That's nothing! I was fishing the Florida gulf coast last month. That's where I found out how enjoyable kayak fishing is. I hooked!

Where in NJ will you be fishing?  As we took a hit in October by Superstorm Sandy, many of the beaches are still off limits. 

Kayaking here on the Barnegate Bay will be difficult in the northern parts due to debris in the bay form cars, houses, and especially sand.  The further south you go it gets better but the boating season in the bay will be slow since most of the bay is being scanned for more debris.

My family had (key word= had) a place in Harvey Cedars. It was sold last yr. Anyway I spent my summers as a kid, fishing the bay, inlet, jetty's and off sthe beach basically every day. I moved to MT 15 yrs ago and gave up the salt. Been coming back the last few summers and rekindled that old feeling. We're coming back  the end of July and had to rent a place because the old house was sold. Rented in High Bar Harbor and the place has a kayak! Naturally with my new found interest in kayak fishing, I started to put 2 and 2 together and trying to put together a plan to do some kayak fishing maybe around Meyers Hole or better yet over by Sedge Island which seems perfect for a kayak. I also ahve my sister's 18' BW'r which will work for family trips. My buddy also going to try to set up a couple days w/ his 22' center console for off the beach. I'm going to try and get as much salt fishing as possible depending  on weather and family committments

Good Luck.  If you do try the sedge islands behind IBSP, the areas to launch there are closed right now and they are not sure when they will be open.  There are too many pieces of debris I was told and that the park officials will be concentrating on getting the ocean side open first.  If you do get a chance to go back there be careful till the all clear is given.  It has been a mess out here but we are getting better maybe by the time your out here things will be different.  Lets all hope so.

Forgive my inexperience. Most my experience is in a boat. Is it unreasonable to launch from Barnegat Light(the rental house)  and just paddle across the bay?

You can paddle across the inlet at that point but be very careful as that is a major inlet and the boat traffic if quite heavy in the summer.  Make sure you have your PFD's on and flags flying so boats can see you as the kayaks are small and to see them when distracted by other things is the norm for boaters flying out the inlet.
