Raritan Bay weekend report
« on: October 01, 2007, 05:57:18 PM »
Started off Sat am drifting sandworms and Gulps around the Reach for Weakfish.. Worked the channel from Keyport to about the Ammo Pier..with the fleet and away from it..NO weakfish..never saw a net out from either the party boats or from private boats..Had one lovely 5lb fluke..gave him some advise on avoiding draggers 'till next year, and sent him on his way.. Did have several blues on the worm rigs, but they didn't last long on the 15# leader... About 10am spotted some birds working south of the Reach.. I had my cousin who has never really done much fishing  on board.. I wanted to get him some action, so I tied on some A27's and had at the Blues..We had almost nonstop action for about 2 hours, with many double and triple headers...Fish where mostly 7-12 lbs.. I would hook a fish and hand it off to my cousin..after about his 15th one, he went in the cabin and hid  ;D After we had enough of the blues, I headed over towards Breezy Point, where I had heard reports of Albies and Bonitos.. Trolled Clark spoons and feathers for a couple hours with no takers.. Ended the day out at the Mud Buoy for another crack at blues..Anchored and chummed..caught a few more, but they where kinda off their feed..they would pick up the bait lightly and drop it ..Sunday was kind of a bust. ..having fished from dawn-dark on sat., I made the mistake of telling my crew (my Bro' and cousin) to sleep a bit later and come to the boat when they where ready ( I slept on board) ..Well they didn't show until 10:30..right AFTER the Keansburg flood gate closed, trapping us at the dock...By the time it re-opened at 1 , the wind was hootin out of the east against the outgoing..The plan had been to head to Shrewsbury Rocks for Seabass, but we got as far as the Ammo Pier in the washing machine chop, when we realized we weren't having any fun...so we played around jigging a few more Blues near the Keansburg pier, and called it a day..

Great report thanks for the detail.  I am sure if people would read these reports and take notes the learning curve would be off the charts.

You can't know to much these days of high cost fuel, bait, lures you name it, by reading these forums for almost a year now I have gained knowledge I thought I forgot over the years.

Thanks All

Happy Catching

Paul
