I'm on that broke college student budget so I tried digging sand/blood worms for the first time yesterday. Not as easy as it sounds. Spent about a half hour out there, was drenched in sweat, and only found about a dozen 2-3" worms. I figured it would be enough for an hour of bottom fishing with small hooks for spots, porgies, and kingfish. I leave the area where I dug the worms and drive over to a dock to do my fishing. Somehow during the walk from my car to the dock I lost my one and only bottom rig I had. I walked back and forth 3 times trying to find it on the ground. I think it must of fell between the boards on the dock. I searched my bag and the only thing I could find that was somewhat appropriate was a 4/0 wide gap fluke hook. Now these tiny worms would've been an okay size for the tiny bottoms hooks I had, but not for this fluke hook. I had to put about 4 of them on the hook to make it look presentable. I got a lot of bites but only hooked up once. And I'm not even sure how I hooked this fish, the hook went into and out of the gill plate, not the mouth. Oh well, I guess it wasn't all bad.
