i would like to put some tuna gear together trolling/jigging set-ups anyone give me some ideas on decent set-ups??
I can tell you what I use for jigging. For trolling hopefully someone else will offer some advice for you.
My current jigging set-up is a Star Plasma 5'2" XH matched to a Shimano Trinidad 40N with 65 lb. Power Pro. (see pic below)
This combo has worked out well for me for butterfly jigging anywhere from 100 - 250 gram jigs. It's rated for up to 350 gram jigs, but I haven't (so far) had the need to fish anything that heavy.
I've been jigging for many different species all my life, but I've only been jigging for tuna for the past few years, so take my advice with that caveat.
If you're planning on fishing butterfly style jigs a shorter rod will be to your benefit. If you're mostly going to use jigs like diamond jigs, Crippled Herrings, etc. where you will be using more of a yo-yo technique, you will probably want a longer rod.
Good luck! Let us know what you finally decide on.
