A bit of an unsettled weather pattern this week, but overall weather conditions will be favorable.  The week will start off dry with rain chances moving in on Wednesday and Thursday and drying out for Friday.  Right now these chances are on the low to mid-range and any rain looks to be scattered showers.  Skies will have more sun than clouds this week, even on the days with possible showers.  Temperatures will be slightly above normal for this time of year.  High temperatures will be in the upper 60’s to low 70’s with overnight lows in the 50’s then 40’s by the end of the week.  Fog is possible Tuesday Night into Wednesday Morning across northern/northwestern areas.  Effects from the stalled out nor’easter will begin to subside on Monday.  Inland winds will be minimal this week, except for Monday across southern areas.  Coastal and marine winds will be gusty on Monday, but below 20 knots and SCA criteria.  Coastal Flood Advisories will expire tonight across the state and flooding should not be an issue for coastal areas, except extreme southern NJ.  Southern areas may still feel some minor effects on Monday, so minor coastal flooding is possible, but not likely.  By Tuesday, the storm will have moved east and south and will no longer affect the area.  Water conditions will vary this week, with Small Craft Advisories likely continued through Tuesday.  Southern areas will see gusty winds lingering longer than northern areas.  Seas will continue around 5 feet through Tuesday with Wednesday seeing waves subsides to 3-4 feet.  Friday could see a return of gusty winds into the weekend with possible Small Craft Advisories again with a passing frontal boundary.  Surf conditions will echo the water conditions with southern areas seeing gusty winds through Tuesday and all areas seeing rough surf and higher waves to 5 feet through Tuesday.  Friday could see some gusty winds into the weekend as well.  Tuesday Afternoon to Wednesday looks like the recovery point, with winds finally diminishing and seas recovering to 3-4 feet.  Water temperatures have not changed much with all waters in the 60’s with most waters in the mid 60’s.  UV Index will be Moderate to Low at 2-5/15.
Strong high pressure will remain centered near coastal New England through Monday.  A low pressure system will track from the Rockies on Monday to the Great Lakes by Wednesday and then into Eastern Canada.  An associated cold front is expected to move through our region on Thursday with possible new low pressure developing along the departing boundary into Friday.  Weak high pressure will then follow to begin next weekend.

The weekend could bring some chances of rain with a passing front.  Showers will likely be scattered.  Highs will be in the mid to upper 60’s, maybe some low 70’s with overnight lows in the 40’s and 50’s.  Water and surf conditions could be questionable, mainly with some gusty winds beginning on Friday carrying over into Saturday.  Small Craft Advisories are possible.  Right now, seas look to remain around 3 feet with a 6-8 second short chop wind waves.

Invest 98L does not look like much of anything right now.  Dry air has prevented any development and the disturbance continues to drift to the west.

Have a great week!

Good morning!  A chilly start with sunny skies and a cloud mixed in here or there.  Sunny skies will continue with clouds building in throughout the day becoming cloudy tonight.  Tonight will bring chances of showers and patchy fog into the overnight and morning hours.  Showers will be scattered with lows chances for most of the state and almost no chances for western and northwestern NJ.  By Wednesday all of the state will have low chances of scattered showers through Thursday overnight.  Highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s today with overnight lows in the mid to upper 50’s inland, upper 50’s to low 60’ along/on the water and upper 40’s across northern areas.  There will be  a light breeze out of the northeast at 5-10 mph becoming southeast later today.

Water conditions are good for areas north of Little Egg Inlet, but LEI south has Small Craft Advisories for Hazardous Seas through tonight.  Overall, winds have decreased and seas are recovering.  However, southern areas are still seeing some gustier winds around 20 knots and seas 4-5 feet.  These conditions will continue to improve today.  Raritan Bay will have east winds 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Patchy fog is possible tonight limiting visibility to 1-3 nautical miles.  Barnegat Bay will have east-northeast winds around 10 knots becoming east at 5-10 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less.  Delaware Bay will northeast winds 15-20 knots becoming 10-15 knots tonight and diminishing to 5-10 knots late tonight with seas 2-4 feet subsiding to 2-3 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters from Sandy Hook to Little Egg Inlet will have east-northeast winds 7-15 knots with seas 3 feet at 7 seconds.  Inshore ocean waters from Little Egg Inlet south to Cape May will have east-northeast becoming northeast at 10-20 knots with seas 4-5 feet at 7 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have east-northeast winds 7-15 knots with seas 3-4 feet at 7 seconds.  Fog is possible in all marine areas tonight limiting visibility to 1-3 nautical miles.

Surf and beach conditions are ok to good.  Northern areas are seeing lighter winds, lower wave heights and some recovering seas while southern areas are still seeing some gusty winds and higher surf.  Winds will be out of the northeast/east-northeast 5-10 knots to the north and 10-15 knots to the south with higher gusts for both areas.  Surf is still rough in most places with wave heights 2-4 feet with a 3-4 foot east/east-southeast swell at 7 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the mid 60’s.  UV Index is Moderate at 4/15.

The tropics are quiet again with no areas being watched any longer.

Have a great day!!

Good morning!  A chilly start for some areas with mostly cloudy and overcast skies.  There is some fog across northern and central coastal areas, making for limited visibility along road and waterways.   This fog is possible again tonight.  Clouds will be consistent  with a chance of scattered showers today and tonight, however there could be some breaks in the clouds letting the sun out ocassionally.  High temperatures will be in the mid 60’s to low 70’s.  Overnight lows will be in the upper 50’s inland and along/on the water with low 50’s across northern areas.  Dew points will lift into the upper 50’s and lower 60’s for some areas making humidity on the moderate side with some noticeable stickiness.  Winds will be calm today with only very light breezes.

Water conditions are slowly returning to normal.  There are still Small Craft Advisories for Hazardous Seas in effect for Sandy Hook east to Montauk and from Cape May south to Delaware.  Overall, water conditions will be good to ok for all locations with light to moderate winds today and seas 3-4 feet with a start of 5 foot seas for Offshore areas.  Conditions will continue to improve throughout the day.  Raritan Bay will have southeast becoming south tonight at 5-10 knots with seas 1 foot or less.  Barnegat Bay will have east-northeast winds around 5 knots becoming variable and less than 5 knots tonight with seas 1 foot.  Patchy fog is possible this morning and then again tonight  making limited visibility to 1-3 nautical miles.  Delaware Bay will have east winds becoming southwest tonight at 5 knots with seas 2-3 feet subsiding to 1-2 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have east-northeast/northeast winds becoming east in the afternoon at 5-10 knots.  Winds will lessen in the afternoon.  Seas will be 3-4 feet at 7 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have east-northeast/northeast winds 5-15 knots diminishing to around 5 knots this afternoon with seas 4-5 feet at 7 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are ok to good with surf slowly clearing up.  Tomorrows westerly winds should help clear up the water and diminish surf conditions.  Winds will be out of the east-northeast/northeast this morning becoming east and then east-southeast this afternoon at 5-10 knots.  Surf is still rough to normal with wave heights 2-3 feet becoming 1-3 feet in the afternoon with a 3 foot east-southeast swell at 7 seconds.  Surf temperatures are still in the mid 60’s.  UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 2-3/15.  Conditions are improving, however be careful on the beaches with fresh beach erosion and water conditions are still cautious in some areas.

The NHC is watching an area in the West Atlantic again, however it does not appear to be any threat to the area.

We could finally see a Fall cool down by next week with cold moving in over much of the country.  This area will see lower 60’s for highs with 40’s overnight.

Have a great Wednesday!

Good morning!  Mild and cloudy with some sun mixed in for some areas with some fog/mist across interior portions of the state and coastal/marine areas.  Cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions will continue with very low to low chances of some scattered showers during the day.  Those chances will increase some into tonight and the overnight for some showers, mainly spotty or scattered.  Already a warm start with upper 50’s and lower to mid 60’s already this morning.  Dew points are almost matching these temperatures now, making for moderate humidity and some stickiness/mugginess in the air.  High temperatures for today will be in the low to mid 70’s.  Overnight lows will only go down into the mid to upper 50’s with upper 40’s across northern areas.  Dew points will remain in the upper 50’s and 60’s today making low to moderate humidity with some sticky or muggy conditions.  Winds will be light and variable, increasing some into the overnight up to around 10 mph with some higher winds/gusts along the coast.

Water conditions will start off good today, becoming cautious with Small Craft Advisories for Sandy Hook to Delaware including New York Harbor, Raritan Bay and Delaware Bay from later tonight into Friday.  Winds will gust to 25 knots and seas could build 5-6 feet on the ocean.  However, by later Friday, everything should be calmed down and recovered.  Raritan Bay will have south winds 5-10 knots becoming southwest 10-15 knots after midnight with seas 1 foot or less building to 1-2 feet after midnight.  Patchy fog this morning is limiting visibility.  Barnegat Bay will have south-southwest winds 5-10 knots becoming south 10-15 knots tonight with seas 1 foot or less becoming around 1 foot tonight.  Patchy fog is possible this morning as well.  Delaware Bay will have south winds 5-10 knots becoming south at 10 knots and then becoming west with gusts to 25 knots with seas 1-2 feet building to 2-3 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have west-southwest/south-southwest winds 5-10 knots becoming  south and southwest at 10-15 knots then 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots and then shifting to the west with gusts to 30-35 knots possible tonight.  Seas will start off at 3 feet at 7-8 seconds building to 3-5 feet at 9 seconds tonight.  Midshore to Offshore waters will have west-southwest winds 5-10 knots becoming south to southwest  10-15 knots then west to northwest at 20-30 knots tonight.  Seas will start off 3-4 feet at 8 seconds becoming 4-7 feet at 9 seconds tonight.

Surf and beach conditions are ok to good.  Winds will be out of the west-southwest at 5-10 knots during the day then becoming south to southwest then west to northwest tonight increasing 10-15 knots and then 15-20 knots with gusts 25-30 knots.  Surf is still rough at times with 2-3 foot waves with a 3 foot east-southeast swell at 7 seconds.  Wave heights will increase to 3-5 feet tonight at 8-9 seconds with a 3-5 foot swell.  Water temperatures are in the mid 60’s still.  UV Index is Low to Moderate today.

Have a great day!

Good morning!  A chilly start across northern areas and a moderate start for the rest of the state with mid 40’s to low 60’s this morning.  A cold front pushed through very quickly last night bringing some brief showers and behind that some cooler and drier air.  Sunny skies with a few clouds mixed in right now and that will continue with mostly clear skies tonight.  High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60’s.  Overnight lows will get down into the mid to upper 40’s inland, low 50’s along/on the water and upper 30’s across northern areas.  Dry conditions for today as well with no rain in the forecast.  Humidity is gone with dew points back into the 40’s and 50’s during the day.  A brisk west wind at 10-15 mph is likely most of the day today

Water conditions are cautious this morning with Small Craft Advisories still in effect until 2PM today, unless they get extended longer, which is possible.  This is mainly due to gusty winds to 20 knots and seas 2-4 feet.  Raritan Bay will have west winds around 15 knots with gusts to 25 knots becoming 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots tonight before diminishing to 5-10 knots.  Seas will be 1-2 feet subsiding to 1 foot or less late tonight.  Barnegat Bay will have west-northwest winds 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots tonight and less than 5 knots after midnight with seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay will have northwest winds 15-20 knots diminishing to 10-15 knots this afternoon becoming west 5-10 knots and then north tonight.  Seas are 2-4 feet today subsiding to 1-2 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have west-northwest winds 15-25 knots becoming west/west-northwest 10-15 knots this afternoon with seas 2-4 feet at 10 seconds.  Midshore to Offshore will have west-northwest 15-25 knots becoming west/west-northwest 15-20 knots this afternoon with seas 3-6 feet at 10 seconds.

Surf and beach conditions are ok to cautious.  West/west-northwest winds will be 10-20 knots diminishing 10-15 knots tonight.  Surf is normal to rough with wave heights 2-4 feet subsiding to 1-3 feet tonight with a 3-4 foot east-southeast swell at 10 seconds.  Surf temperatures are still in the mid 60’s.  UV Index will be Moderate at 4-5/15.

Have a great Friday!
