Pulled out of Keyport at 5:30pm with a couple of friends who were itching to get out. Water temp in the marina towards the bottom of the outgoing was 51 Deg. My expectations of catching any quality Stripers were slim because low tide was approaching soon at 6:40pm And the constant west wind created bad anchoring conditions.
In the upper Raritan bay we were set up on the anchor and started chunking. The water temp out here was 56 deg. With the slack tide and wind the boat was swinging around pretty good and the air temp was dropping below 50 Deg with s steady 10 to 12 mph wind as well. 1 rod took a nice hit and shortly after we had a 27" bass that was released.
At 8:45 we called it a day and head back for the marina . It sure got cold pretty fast.
Good luck, Eddie
