Had friend Matt and his buddy Ben out for a chance at the striped ones. Once again it was a late start because Matt had an early morning errand to run. Broke the inlet shortly after 9:00 and turned north. Within minutes we found bird life and marks. 3 jigs down, 3 weakfish up. Played there for a few minutes and moved further north. About 2 miles south of SRI I saw some growing bird life, they looked like they knew all hell was going to break loose.
We waited to see what would happen and before we knew it the screen lit up and birds started working the area hard. I positioned the boat over some good marks ane we saw a Striper on the surface. Our bet is it was 30#-40#. Jigs go in and it's fish on........ Blues and big ones. Now the flock of birds is huge! Fish are blowing up on the surface. We followed the life all day, only catching gigantic blues to 22#. There were certainly Striper marks on the screen but we couldn't get them to chew. The day ended 3 miles off of MI with winds in the 25+ knot range and 4 footers. Before leaving we had a large sunfish swim past. They're always cool to see.
Although no stripers yet, it was still a great day. Water temp was right at 60. Any day now!!
