I'm not sure which Surgeon's Knot you are referencing.  In any case, they are for different purposes.  The Dropper Loop is for making an attachment loop somewhere along the line.  The Surgeon's End Loop is for making a loop attachment at the end of the line.  And the Surgeon's Knot is used to join two lines.

I saw somewhere where they used a surgeons knot to make a loop in the middle of the line like you would use a dropper loop.  5hrug

I used to tie a Dropper loop and for some reason had a hard time with it, I started using the surgeon's loop in the middle and the end. I even use it in a larger form for tying the Belmar rig for Blackfish  t^

I saw it on You Tube now I can't find it! For me it is easier to tie. It doesn't seem to weaken the line or slip.
