Heavy bird action off Pt . Pleasant
« on: October 07, 2007, 08:02:53 PM »
Went out 5 Pm tonight out of Manasquan, and just south of the inlet were lots of birds working several areas about a half mile off the beach. Trolled a large Hopkins around the action with no hits. Fishfinder showed fish stacked low. Jigged for a while with no hits. Had my Son drive to new area and the reel started screaming as I left it out by accident. Had a big one on but lost it close to the boat. We had to be going 20 mph while in route when it struck. Was this a bonita? It is very frustrating when the birds are working, the sounder is showing fish, and can't get a fish after 1 hour of work. What kind of fish do you think they were (bonita?) and why couldn,t I get any on a versatile lure like a hopkins? Any help would be great, Thanks!

Welcome Aboard,

I can't imagine what could hit at that speed unless you fouled hooked something and the hook ripped out?

Any way, welcome and keep the questions coming.  This one could be tough to answer but I am sure there will be a number of guys that will chime in.

Again Welcome Aboard.

Happy Catching
