A bit unsettled weekend with some chances of rain both days, but water conditions will be recovered and good.  Friday Night will begin the low chances of showers, continuing through the start of the week.  Saturday and Saturday Night will have POP’s 30% and less and mainly across southern and northern areas.  Sunday will 20% POP’s with chances increasing throughout the day into the overnight with 50%+ POP’s.  Sunday Night into Monday will have the greatest chances of rain in the next 7 days.  Temperatures will be slightly above average with highs in the mid 50’s to mid 60’s with overnight lows only into the 40’s and 50’s.  Winds should remain calm to light all weekend .  Water conditions will be good with light to moderate winds and recovered seas around 2-3 feet through late Sunday Night. Sunday Night into Monday winds will increase to 20+ knots with building seas.  Surf and beach conditions will be good through Sunday Night.  Water temperatures have really dropped this week.  Rivers and bays are in the mid to upper 40’s.  Surf temperatures are in the mid 40’s to low 50’s.  Inshore ocean waters are in the mid 50’s.    Midshore to Offshore waters are in the upper 50’s.  UV Index will be Low to Moderate at  1-3/15.

A large high pressure system across the Eastern United States will move off into the Atlantic through Saturday. Low pressure will develop over The Plains States Friday and move northeast this weekend.  An associated cold front will cross the area on Monday.  More high pressure will then build in for next week.  Another disturbance is likely to arrive next weekend.

The week will start off with rain chances on Monday clearing out by Monday Night.  The remainder of the week will be dry, sunny and clear.  Temperatures will start off average to a little above average, then drop again with the passing of the cold front on Monday.  High temperatures will range from the 60’s on Monday to the 40’s by Tuesday.  Lows will be in the 30’s down to the 20’s.  Water conditions will be cautious to hazardous starting Monday through Wednesday inshore and through Thursday midshore to offshore, maybe even sticking around through Friday.  Winds will be over 20 knots out of the east to southeast increasing seas to 5 feet inshore and 9 feet midshore to offshore. Surf and beach conditions will be affected with winds, rough surf and wave heights peaking around 3-5 feet.  The next couple of days will bring next week into better perspective!

Have a great weekend!

Re: Threat of Damaging Winds Tonight
« Reply #1 on: November 17, 2013, 04:16:57 PM »
As a strong cold front moves through the area tonight, winds will increase to around 10-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph, ahead of and behind the front.  These winds will start tonight and most of Monday.  As the front nears the area, rain, thunderstorms and winds gusting to 60+ mph are possible during the overnight hours tonight.  These winds could easily bring down trees and power lines!

This line of storms are the same storms that produced 40+ tornadoes today across the Central US.  While, the storms that move through NJ will not be anywhere closely as strong, thunderstorms are possible and winds from the front itself will be capable of doing damage.

Be alert during the overnight and stay safe!!
